What Canada’s registered charities report paying their staff: 42,665 charities reported pay for fiscal years ending in 2024, $215B in all, in their returns to the Canada Revenue Agency. No names: the return has none.
The ten highest-paid positions, by band
Every charity’s ten highest-paid full-time positions (fewer where it has fewer), fiscal years ending in 2024.
Each registered charity’s return to the Canada Revenue Agency says how many of its ten highest-paid permanent full-time positions fall in each of nine pay bands, how many such positions it has, how many part-time or part-year staff, and what it spent on pay in all. It gives no names and no one’s exact pay. Pay here is what the return calls compensation: salaries, wages and benefits.

Questions and answers
Where do these figures come from?
From the returns (form T3010) registered charities file with the Canada Revenue Agency each year, Schedule 3, which the CRA publishes as open data on open.canada.ca under the Open Government Licence – Canada. Figures are as each charity filed them; the CRA does not check them all. A charity’s own returns are on the CRA’s list of charities.
Why no names or exact salaries?
The return does not ask for them: only how many of the ten highest-paid full-time positions fall in each band. A charity that is also a public employer (a hospital, a university, a school board) may be on its province’s salary list, with names, elsewhere on this site.
