Questions and answers

What is “statutory salary”?

The sessional allowance every member is paid ($217,700 from April 1, 2026), plus the additional salary the Act sets for the paid role a member holds (minister, parliamentary secretary, committee chair and the rest), from the House of Commons’ own table. It is the rate the law sets for the role, not a reported payment: a member who joined or changed roles during the year was paid part of it. Where a member holds two paid roles, only the higher additional salary is counted, since the House’s table does not say how two combine. How the lists work
